SPENDING MORE TIME IN PRAYER: THE SPEAKING-IN-TONGUES REMEDY
I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all. (Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:18)
To pray more, you need to speak with tongues more. This is nonnegotiable. Just as the body has its language which is in form of feelings and the soul has its, in the form of learned speech, your spirit is given a channel of communication with its creator, which is in the form of unlearned language referred to in scriptures as “tongues”. It is unexplainable to the mind, this phenomenon of tongues.
Just as God, at the tower of Babel, distilled numerous spoken languages on the then world which they have never learned before, he is now giving utterances of mysterious tongues to as many as would receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
Speaking in tongues lightens the load on the mind in the place of prayer; you don’t have to be overwrought with thinking of the appropriate words to use in prayer or to stop praying because you don’t know what else to say.
By praying in tongues you are praying from a state of total rest. Your spirit does all the praying as it taps into the knowledge of God himself. You no longer have the excuse of not knowing what else to say resulting in shorter time spent in communion with the Holy Spirit. God did not save you so that he could have a minimal prayer-relationship with you.
Open your mouth, speak in tongues. No matter what you do, make sure no less than half of your time in prayer is in tongues. By so doing you would at least double the time you put into praying.
